What are Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning?

What is artificial intelligence?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a technology that makes things smarter, allowing machines to display human intelligence. It's a broad term that enables computers to perform human jobs, while the scope of artificial intelligence varies widely, with more applications and variations over time.

Where is artificial intelligence?
The systems implemented today are a form of weak artificial intelligence - systems that can do one or more things to the same extent as, or even better than, humans. Create a learning system by writing code and training it to recognize objects or gestures. For example, natural language processing, artificial intelligence for video game behavior, and machine learning are all forms of weak artificial intelligence.

What is machine learning?
Machine learning (ML) can usually be defined as the way to finally achieve artificial intelligence by learning from past data and experience and finding its operating rules.

Machine learning involves training machines to recognize patterns of operation through samples, rather than programming them with specific rules. These samples can be found in the documentation. In other words, machine learning is a type of narrow AI that learns from complex functions from data to create an algorithm (or set of rules) and uses it to make predictions.

Machine learning is about how to predict the future, and is trained in the following ways:
  • Required information
  • Learning samples from materials
  • Based on the experience gained in step 2, classify new material that has not been seen before and speculate what it might be

The great thing about machine learning is that it can learn on its own. The current machine learning applications are doing well, such as recognizing objects, the same ML system can still be used for future objects without rewriting the code, which is quite convenient and powerful.

What is deep learning?
Deep Learning (DL) can be defined as a technique that implements machine learning.
Such DL techniques are called deep neural networks (DNNs). In the case of DNNs, deep learning is essentially the code structure where DL resides, arranged in layers that loosely mimic the human brain, learning patterns of patterns.

Summarize:
The concept of artificial intelligence dates back to the 1950s, a fairly long time. By 1980, machine learning was starting to gain popularity. Around 2010, DL made significant progress in weak AI systems. Deep learning drives machine learning and finally realizes artificial intelligence.
